Southern India, Here We Come!!

It's the eve of our departure to India... getting really excited. After the typical ~30 hour journey to get there, our first stop will be Chennai for the upcoming IDLO law-and-microfinance course. Should be a stellar and diverse set of participants from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nepal. And I suspect that, as with previous IDLO course, I will learn even more than the students! After training on international investment opportunities for MFIs and the uses of new forms of media to enhance their external messaging and internal operations, we might have an opportunity to visit an Indian prison before stopping in Mahabalipuram / Mamallapuram (the name that's fun just to say!) for stone carvings or Puducherry / Pondicherry for a sampling of subcontinental old France. Then I'll continue on to Bangalore and spend several days at the Unitus office there. So many exciting things going on there, I have already basically concluded that my time there will fly by and be all too short. I've heard of myriad cultural and architectural gems at nearby Mysore, but we'll have to see what schedules hold as to whether I'll get a first-hand taste of their beauty. On that note, back to packing -- or rather, time to pack! Stay tuned for more Notes From The Road, live from the subcontinent...
